Organization Profile

SH/OP, Supporting Health with Organic Produce, is an organization committed to providing organic produce for people with Cancer and HIV. Our interest in providing organic produce for people with cancer and HIV is two pronged. We recognize the fact that many people who have been living with cancer and HIV have seen their financial resources strained. Organic produce is significantly more expensive to buy than conventional produce. While the verdict may be out on the health value of organic vs. conventional produce, there is little argument over the need for phytonutrients. It is also important to not expose the chemicals of pesticide residue in a body that is trying to heal. While we do not advocate any specific "juicing" diet such as Gearson, we believe that every person with cancer or HIV needs to be able to make their own dietary decisions not contingent on affordability. Our group is using a consensus based collective process and invites anyone who wants to participate to come to meetings. We can also use people to help pick up food, set up the distribution site (Peace United Church of Christ on High street), and clean up after the distribution. . We are sponsored by Chadeish Yameinu Jewish Renewal Community of Santa Cruz and have the personal endorsement of Scott Roseman, founder of New Leaf Community Markets.
