Peer Mentor

The Rainbow Family Resource Center offers 1-on-1 mentorship and support for neurodivergent and disabled individuals and families across Santa Cruz County through our volunteer-run peer support program. Because we serve a broad demographic, we strive to bring on volunteers with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are seeking individuals with first-hand experience navigating any of the following:

  • Disability first-hand
  • Disability of a loved one
  • Neurodiversity first-hand
  • Neurodiversity of a loved one
  • Aging
  • Pregnancy
  • Mental illness
  • Substance abuse
  • Chronic illness
  • Injuries
  • Cancer and other significant illnesses

Some of the people we serve include aging clients, families with disabled children, individuals who have experienced homelessness, justice-involved clients, terminally ill individuals, neurodivergent and disabled adults, and more. Our clients come from all cultural and financial circumstances.

The right fit for this role is someone with compassion, understanding, and personal experience navigating local resources. As a peer case manager, you will undergo training with The Rainbow and be assigned to support local community members. Volunteers are encouraged to take on fewer cases than what they can handle so that each client gets adequate attention and the volunteer doesn'tt get overwhelmed in their role.

We are seeking peer case managers willing to spend 1-to-3 hours per week per client, offering a combination of remote and in-person support. This can include helping clients come up with a support plan, connecting clients to local resources, and assisting with administrative or in-person tasks. You can set your own schedule and transfer clients you are no longer able to serve.

All volunteers must complete a background check, take onboarding training, and have access to a computer.

If you're interested in this opportunity, we'd love to hear from you!
