Stop and Smell the Redwoods! Nisene Marks Needs You

Work with us to give visitors to The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park the best possible experience! Our mission is to protect, maintain and enhance the park. Join us for an immersive forest experience, right in our backyard! Typical work days include maintaining trails (primarily by cutting back vegetation), painting, clearing culverts and freeing trees from ivy.
Every 3rd Sunday of the month the Advocates meet in the park for trailwork days. Meet at the main entrance kiosk desk at 9:30 am for refreshments and trailwork kickoff.

For August Trail Day, we'll focus on the following initiatives:

  1. Finalize brushing back Oak Ridge Trail

  2. Begin brushing back Terrace Trail and East Vienna Woods Trail

  3. Potential English ivy eradication

As the state budget cutbacks have severely hampered the ability of the CA State Parks to upgrade and maintain the park, it is necessary for the active park users to pitch in and help. Through the Advocates, park users, with donations of time and/or money, can help maintain trails, build capital improvement projects (such as building an outhouse or decking a new bridge), sponsor special events (such as a presentation on the history of the park), and work to address the needs of various user groups.

Where:
Meet us at the front entrance kiosk of the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park for coffee, snacks, and trailwork kick-off.

Arriving:
When you arrive at the front kiosk of the park, let the ranger know that you are volunteering for the trailwork day. They will waive your parking fee. Ask for Johannes Lintzen (our trailboss). He will be leading the volunteer group.

What to bring:
Bring comfortable clothing, closed toe shoes, and drinking water. We will provide gloves and tools.

We are happy to welcome you as a part of this great organization’s legacy. Thank you for your support and see you on the trail!
