Opportunity Details
Volunteers are needed to support the day-to-day operations of an emergency shelter in Santa Cruz serving people displaced by the winter storm.
Tasks include checking-in participants; food service; monitoring common areas, assisting staff with day-to-day operations; notifying supervisors of emerging needs.
What skills are needed for this role?
1. Friendliness, willingness to engage with residents.
2. Flexibility and problem-solving. We won't have everything figured out at the start and there will be some trial and error.
3. You don't need experience in a shelter – we just need people with a positive attitude who are flexible and adaptable.
Volunteers will be provided with masks, but it's always helpful to bring your own if you have them. It is also cold and wet weather - so even though you will be inside please dress warmly.
We are still following COVID safety protocols, so please don't come to volunteer if you are feeling unwell.
Shifts are 4-hours and run 24-hoiurs a day
If you are volunteering for a late night shift we recommend bringing a book or something to occupy your time as it will be quiet during those hours.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
