Help People With Taxes

Project SCOUT provides free tax help to seniors, families, and individuals with earned income of $64,000 or less. Here are the volunteer roles available to support free tax preparation, both at sites and virtually.

Phone Support/Intake – Assist clients on the phone with their tax related questions, perform intakes to make sure clients can be serviced, and set up appointments for clients to be serviced. Both office and remote options available.

Site Support/Intake – Greeter at sites creating a pleasant atmosphere for clients. Screening (intake) of clients to determine the type of assistance they need and confirm they have the necessary documents. Assistance of document retrieval and setting up of follow-up appointments for pick-up.

Office Assistant – Assistance with phone, appointment calendar, and volunteer support. Receipt of client documents and setting up follow-up appointments. Both office and remote options available.

Interpreter – Provision of free language interpreter services to customers who are not fluent in English. Office and remote options available.

Site Administrator – Excellent organizational and leadership skills necessary. A Site Administrator is the primary resource at sites and is available to assist with any issues that may arise. You develop and maintain schedules for all site volunteers to ensure adequate coverage, supplies and equipment available.

Tax Preparer – Complete and successfully certification in tax law training, including the use of electronic filing soware to provide free tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers both at sites and online mandatory. Training is provided by Project SCOUT.

Tax Coach – Provision of tax law assistance and guide taxpayers in preparing their own tax returns. Training is provided by Project SCOUT. Office and remote options available.

IT Specialist/Troubleshooter – Working knowledge of personal computers, soware and communication systems. An IT Specialist/Troubleshooter supports the program and volunteers with their tech needs and issues. Office and remote options available.
