Animal Care New Volunteer Orientation

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is seeking volunteers to exercise and socialize dogs and cats.
Volunteer Role & Responsibilities :
Keep the Animals Happy!
• Socialize dogs, cats and Rabbits from both the Stray and Adoptable Kennels
• Engage in the sort of interaction that seems to match the dogs’ needs: lap sitting for small snuggly dogs, walks for most dogs, fetch and play in large yards for energetic young dogs, calming message for stressed dogs, simply sitting in a kennel speaking slowly to a very shy dogs. Cats are socialized in a play room at the shelter.

As a volunteer, you can make your own schedule. The shelter is open 7 days a week, as the animals always need care and socialization. Shifts are typically 2 hours.

Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer at the shelter independently. Volunteers ages 13-17 can volunteer at the shelter if accompanied by a parent or legal gaurdian at all times.
