Writing Hope into Our World

Join our 14-day challenge by writing a letter of encouragement, support, or thanks to the organization or nonprofit of your choice. You are welcome to write to a social justice organization in Santa Cruz County or across the nation! Reaching out to organizations, groups and individuals that are working every day to create a safe, just and peaceful world with a message of thanks and support helps keep them inspired to continue their work. 

This letter-writing campaign is inspired by Martin Luther King's letter from Birmingham Jail.
In his letter, he shined a light on the importance of standing with social justice everywhere because, “Moreover, I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
While email is a great way to reach people, we encourage you to take the time to write a letter or card and send it in the mail - it really does mean more to see it in writing. Make your letter personal and tell them why you care about their work. 

Feel free to research an organization of your choice and send an email of praise or an old-fashioned handwritten letter by mail.
