Opportunity Details
Join us from home to celebrate MLK Day by writing a letter of encouragement, support, or thanks to the organization or nonprofit of your choice. You are welcome to write to a social justice organization in Santa Cruz County or across the nation! This letter-writing campaign is inspired by Martin Luther King's letter from Birmingham Jail.
In his letter, he shined a light on the importance of standing with social justice everywhere because, “Moreover, I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
Feel free to research an organization of your choice and send an email of praise or an old-fashioned handwritten letter by mail.
Here a list of organizations that you can send a letter to!
