Loch Lomond Broom Bash
Join our small group of volunteers that preserve and protect the watershed that drains to the Loch Lomond Reservoir - the only drinking water reservoir for the City of Santa Cruz. This ridgeline has been overgrown by broom in the past and requires consistent management. Broom is a strong competitor and can quickly dominate landscapes and outcompete native flora which impacts wildlife, wildfires and more. Volunteers will work along the Highland Trail, hiking less than two miles in total and pulling broom in various areas along the trail. Poison Oak will be present in some areas so volunteers should wear long pants and long sleeves. Poison oak pre and post-contact towelettes will be provided. Light snacks will be available, and volunteers will get a voucher for a 1 hour FREE boat rental to Loch Lomond. We will meet at Loch Lomond at the Glen Corrie picnic area (first one on the right as you go down the hill) at 9:30 AM and shuttle to the work site together in city vehicles. Bathrooms will be available at the meeting site and at the work site.
