Habitat Restoration at Seabright Beach

What a wonderful way to spend an early fall morning doing coastal restoration at this sweet CA State Beach in Santa Cruz. The habitat restoration project at Seabright State Beach has been ongoing for about five plus years now, led by Groundswell Coastal Ecology in partnership with CA State Parks. We will be assisting with ongoing work removing invasive, non-native Carpobrotus edulis (iceplant) on the dunes. Come out and join us, and see how hard work has helped transform this beautiful place.

Directions to Seabright Beach: The meeting spot is the entrance to Seabright Beach part of Twin Lakes State Beach on the west side of the yacht harbor.

At the intersection of Highway 17 (ending in Santa Cruz), and Ocean Street, take Ocean Street straight down till it ends. At the intersection, make a left hand turn. You have the river on the right, and the beach boardwalk beyond that. Climb the hill, and shortly after passing the train trestle, make a quick right hand turn. Follow this down towards the ocean; it will curve to the left, and start going down a hill right across from the Santa Cruz city Museum of Natural History where a large grey whale sculpture is present. Continue on past the museum and the entrance to Seabright Beach; go to the top of the hill (at the corner of Seabright Ave. and East Cliff Drive). At the stop sign, make a left hand turn on Seabright, and then a quick right on to Atlantic Ave. Drive along Atlantic, till you see 3rd Avenue and turn right. Go to the end, and park in the parking area along 3rd and East Cliff, or along the street on Atlantic. We will meet at the end of 3rd Avenue by the stairs (down to the beach).

Seabright Beach has no parking lot, but you can park anywhere on the neighborhood streets where there is not a "No Parking" sign or red curb. There is no neighborhood permit parking that you need to worry about.

Afterward, consider taking a stroll or a dip at the beach, and feel good that you helped this special spot. See you there!
